This white paper contains the findings of phase one of the Transforming Energy Demand initiative (2023/24). It demonstrates a compelling case for energy demand actions. Research and International Business Council (IBC) members’ examples show the potential for around a 31% reductions in the amount of energy required for businesses to deliver products and services at attractive returns, requiring no new technology. Over the 2023-2025 period, the IBC aims to accelerate the energy transition through the initiative. With a growing global population and increasing energy demand, especially in developing markets, adopting ways to increase output using less energy will support growth, mitigate energy costs and supply issues and safeguard the speed of the transition. As a group of leading businesses representing over 3% of global energy consumption, the IBC members can play their part by implementing clear initiatives for energy demand transformation, including through cooperation with their value chain partners and policy-makers.
