SIDS lighthouses initiative: progress and way forward

The SIDS Lighthouses Initiative (LHI) annual progress report provides an overview of energy transformation and implementation progress in small island developing states (SIDS) for the year 2021. Notably, the political commitment to renewables among SIDS remains unwavering despite the setbacks generated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The report highlights key developments in the energy transformation undertaken jointly by SIDS and development partners, as shared with IRENA and featured on the associated knowledge-sharing platform. In particular, it provides updates on SIDS and LHI partners’ achievements, best practices and support across the eleven priority areas upon which the initiative is built. It also offers insights into urgent areas for intervention to support the energy transition and climate action in SIDS, and highlights the importance of enduring partnerships and international cooperation to cater to SIDS’ special circumstances and needs.
